1. Rhipicentor bicornis Nuttall and Warburton, 1908

(Transvaal).
Principal hosts of adults are
wild carnivores, such as lion, leopard, cheetah, serval, jackal, civet, genet,
and similar species. These ticks were also found on eland, livestock, and
domestic dogs. Larva has been described, but hosts of immature ticks are
unknown. It is a little known, sporadically spread species.

Adults were mainly found on lion,
jackal, cheetah, genet, hyena, hedgehogs, domestic dogs, and leopards. There
are a few collections from porcupines, eland, and livestock as well. Immature
ticks feed on elephant shrews Elephantulus. Life cycle takes one year.
Tick bites can cause paralysis in domestic dogs.
